Demand Controller:
How the system works

The K-MAC Phase III Demand Controller is a microcomputer based load control system that 1) measures total electric energy consumption, and 2) controls certain electric loads to reduce demand peaks, which in turn spreads power consumption out over a longer period of time. As a result, demand (kW) will be reduced to a minimum. Energy (kWh) used may also be reduced.

Controlled Equipment
Most commercial facilities contain large electrical loads that "cycle" on and off based on a process parameter—typically temperature. The K-MAC Demand Controller simply coordinates equipment cycling to prevent the demand peaks that occur when the following types of equipment run simultaneously:

If your utility has a special rate for time-of-day metering, the Demand Controller is even more effective in the savings process. By shifting loads to run primarily during off-peak periods, the "billing demand" (on-peak demand is used for billing purposes) is reduced even further.
